Shortwave
HF weather fax
Surface pressure charts and ice maps sent to shipping on shortwave, drawn on the video pane as they come in.
Weather fax is a chart sent as a slow picture over a single sideband channel, still broadcast for shipping by several national services. A full chart takes several minutes and appears line by line.
It shares the video pane with SSTV and the satellite passes, because a picture is a picture whatever carried it.
What comes out
- The chart itself, as it draws
- Line rate and index of cooperation
- Start and stop tones, so a chart is cut where it should be
