APRS
Packet stations, digipeaters, weather stations and vehicle trackers, with a KISS TNC so your own software can use the same radio.
APRS is AX.25 at 1200 baud carrying position, weather and text, on one calling frequency per region: 144.800 in Europe, 144.390 in North America, 144.640 in Japan. Mic-E compressed positions are read along with the plain ones.
The interesting part for an existing station is --kiss-listen: WaveShark serves a KISS TNC, so Xastir, YAAC, Direwolf-style tooling or anything else that speaks KISS treats the SDR as its modem, and can key AX.25 back out through a radio that transmits.
What comes out
- Source and destination call signs, and the digipeater path
- Position, course, speed and altitude, Mic-E included
- Weather report fields where the station sends them
- Status and message text, in the message view
