Marine VHF
AIS
Vessel positions and identity on the same map as the aircraft, off the two AIS channels at once.
Every commercial vessel and most pleasure craft transmit AIS: who they are, where they are, where they are going and how fast. The two channels sit 50 kHz apart, and WaveShark reads both from one span rather than making you choose.
A vessel is the same kind of track as an aircraft, so the map, the trails and the range rings behave the same way. Static reports fill in the name, the type and the destination as they arrive, which is why a vessel gains a name a minute after its first position.
What comes out
- MMSI, and the vessel name and call sign from static reports
- Position, course over ground, speed and rate of turn
- Ship type, dimensions and draught
- Destination and estimated arrival, as entered by the crew
