Drone Remote ID

A drone’s serial, position, height and operator location, from the Remote ID broadcast it is required to send, and the home point from a DJI airframe.

Remote ID is a broadcast, not a network service: the aircraft transmits who it is and where it and its operator are, over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth LE, and anything nearby can read it. WaveShark reads Open Drone ID on both carriers and puts the aircraft and the operator on the map as separate marks.

DJI airframes also broadcast DJI DroneID, which adds the home point, meaning the place the aircraft took off from. That needs 15.36 MS/s, so it is a HackRF or LimeSDR job rather than a dongle one.

What comes out

  • Serial number as printed on the airframe
  • Position, height, speed and heading
  • Operator position, where the aircraft has a fix
  • Home point, on DJI DroneID
