L band
Inmarsat: satellite ACARS from aircraft over oceans, and the EGC and SafetyNET broadcasts sent to shipping.
A geostationary satellite is a signal from a fixed direction that never sets, which makes L band the easiest satellite reception after the 137 MHz weather birds, once you have a patch antenna and a low noise amplifier.
What comes down is aircraft datalink from places with no VHF ground station, and the maritime safety broadcasts every commercial vessel is required to receive.

- Inmarsat AeroThe satellite half of airline datalink: the same messages as ACARS, sent where there is no VHF ground station to hear.
- Inmarsat STD-CEGC and SafetyNET broadcasts to shipping: navigation warnings, weather, piracy reports and search and rescue calls.
Every band, one receiver.
The decoders do not follow the dial: everything inside the span runs all the time.
