WaveShark

Apple silicon · dmg and a bare binary

WaveShark for macOS

An unnotarised app carrying its own libraries, or a bare binary that reads them from Homebrew. The build that plays television and DAB.

The macOS build is the one whose ffmpeg is new enough to decode a service out of a DVB-T or DVB-S2 multiplex and the sound of a DAB station, so it is the build that shows television pictures and plays digital radio. Speech models run on Metal.

The app is signed ad-hoc rather than notarised, so macOS refuses it the first time. Privacy & Security in System Settings then offers Open Anyway; on Sonoma and older a right click and Open does it. That is Apple’s gatekeeping, not a warning about the software.

First run

  1. Open the disk image and drag the app across

    The .app carries its own ffmpeg and LimeSuite, and the radios need no driver at all.

  2. Allow it on first open

    Open Anyway in Privacy & Security after the first refusal, or clear the quarantine flag once.

    $ xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/WaveShark.app
  3. For the bare binary, install the libraries

    The binary published beside the image reads them from Homebrew rather than carrying them.

    $ brew install ffmpeg limesuite

Radio in, nothing else.

No account, no service and nothing phoning home. The binary is the program.
